sunflowers

I grew a couple of sunflowers over summer, but other than being good for photos they weren't that great! Hardly any of the seeds took, the few that did got eaten by caterpillars and the two that made it seemed to need a lot of water or they went all sad and droopy. But I enjoyed watching them unfold and open up. They lasted about a week and now they are all crispy and finished. I'll scattered the seeds and see what happens but I am not going to try very hard with them again!

year of the sheep

Hi
Apparently the year of the sheep (or goat) is going to be more chilled out than last year, the year of the horse. It's going to be calmer and more nurturing than last year, which kind of bolted away from us and made crazy stuff happen. These photos were taken at the Chinese New Year fair last week in Northbridge. Here's a greeting I found when googling the year of the goat:

Wishing you a goat year, in life goat eyebrows and snorting, in business goat self-satisfying, in career goat pass wide road, and may worries goat be always far away. This goat year make a goat fortune, everyday a cheerful goat!

So there you go. Happy goat eyebrows to you this year!
H.

banksia

Another favourite in my garden is this banksia. I can't remember what type it is, but it was also planted from tube stock and is now out of control and producing many flowers.

Catch up 2013: baby quilt

This is another quilt I made this year, for a special dude who is due next year (a friend's, not mine!). I think I did really good binding on this one. Because it was a gift I did it... kind of properly, or tried to. I hope he likes bright colours!
