If you know me, you'll know I get lots of clothes and shoes at Target. Yeh, I'm that classy. But check these out for Target shoes - how cute are these? I liked them so much I bought the same ones in black, with red flowers.

I had the day off work today, which has been v. relaxing. I did a bit of shopping, and noticed the calendar shops are set up in the shopping centres... that means its nearly christmas. I bought a roll of christmas wrapping paper last week, and was kind of embarrassed because its only October. But I liked it. It was in pink, yellow, orange - very bright. I didn't want to not buy it then wish that I had. While it did cross my mind, I stopped short of looking for christmas presents today, that did seem just a bit too soon.

Hope your week is going well!

World's shrimpiest strawberry harvest! Am amazed the caterpillars did not eat these before me. They were easy to grow, and were super juicy and delicious. Most of them didn't make it indoors, I just ate them straight off the plant.

These are some things I did manage to grow well - rocket, mint, chives, and parsley. I was picking them for dinner during the week, and to put into some savoury muffins for a work morning tea. Since then the rocket and mint have been savaged by caterpillars, the little bastards! The mint will recover and grow back quickly, the rocket will probably not. I've got a heap of tomatoes just in, all doing very well - fingers crossed the caterpillars don't discover them any time soon.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

I tried to grow garlic, but didn't do a great job. They came out very small - but they smell fantastic.

A few weeks ago I got to take some photos of this shop, Scraps, on William Street. Its up the top end between the Red Teapot and the asian grocery with the guy with the afro who uses a cucumber as a microphone to yell about the vegetables he is selling. You know the guy. One of the owners is Ash. That's him in the photo. Go and say hi.

The pics were for the Sunday Times magazine, and I had a post ready to tell you about it for the weekend just gone, and was going to instruct you to go out and buy the Sunday Times. But then, as it turns out, they went ahead early, and I didn't find out until it was about two weeks too late.

I had a minor panic about it, because I'd been so looking to see my pics in print for the first time in a few years, although I will admit the Sunday Times is not the loftiest of publications... But then I got my act together, decided I would find a copy somehow, and as a starting point I put the word out on facebook. By the next day I had an offer of one rescued from the recycling (thanks Jo) but by the day after that I had an actual copy delivered to my doorstep (thanks Teena). So I got to see it after all.

A bit disappointing. The seemed to pic the most boringest picture of the entire day, but not to worry, at least I get to share the rest with you here. Next time I will try harder to find out about publication dates in advance and save my lovely friends the trouble of rummaging in their bins to help me out...

p.s. my favourite is the one shown 5th, of the guy in the doorway.

The swing dance scene was shot at Como Primary School. Great stage and red velvet curtain... shame about the 80s ceiling and flouro lights... and that the whole thing sloped down on one side!

Yesterday I took a load of photos for a short film written by my friend Suze. I took so many photos I don't know where to start editing them, but I will put some up over the next few days. It was the final scene of the movie, and involved swing dancing, red shoes, and kissing. All good things. Its very tricky trying to take pictures of people dancing. Not surprisingly, they move around a lot, quickly. I'd never tried it before, but I got a few I like... just have to weed them out from the duds.

purple & orange

Purple and orange isn't really a combination you see that much, so I really like these two together. The spray cans are at the Butcher's Shop. The workman was just around the corner at the cultural centre. The steps at the cultural centre are also orange and purple, so I thought it was going to make a great trio of photos - but its been really hard to get a good photo of the steps. Everything is covered in chewing gum, tags, cigarette butts - just a layer of general scum and cruddiness. I went twice. I cropped and edited. It didn't work out. Really, I tried.

Today I signed the Colour H to the Meet Me at Mikes Young Things List, but of course I didn't really read it properly and didn't realize it was for blogs under a year old until after I'd added mine. Well, my blog is about a year and two weeks old now - so I think I can sneak it in, right? As I write this, there's 128 new blogs on the list - I'm looking forward to having a look at them, and I'm sure more will be added to the list. Are you here because you came from Mikes? If so, hello and welcome, why not leave a comment so I know who you are?

Today I listened to a talk by Josh Byrne (the Gardening Australia guy) about the development of the urban orchard place in the cultural centre. The plants are coming along, and there seems to be a small army of volunteers tidying up and keeping things alive. I'm not really sure if the intention is that you can just help yourself... to an apple for your lunch, or a cauliflower, or some corriander...? Maybe that's what its there for, I'm not sure.

I like the project. There's loads of colour now in what was a very plain space. I put up a few posts about it in mid August (if you want to look use the archive menu on the right because there were about 6 posts in a row and I'm too lazy to link to them all). There will be more talks at the urban orchard in November and December, info here.

Hope your weekend was ace, enjoy your working week.

pink

Some pink flowers from my garden - paper daisies, geraldton wax, and at the back so you can't really see it (and its red anyway) is a kangaroo paw. They are next to an empty ikea frame that I want to put some photos in, but I haven't had any photos printed since like 2006 so am not sure where to get that done.

I've started to think about xmas a lot lately. Is it too soon? I do really like it, the decorating anyway. I like to have a colour theme, last year's was red and blue. I put a photo of it here if you want to see. This year I was thinking either pale blue and white, or yellow and orange, but now that I see these pink things I am wondering about pink and something...? Its 12 weeks away. Time to think about it.
